We saved our pennies for a few years and finally splurged on our European vacation. We spent months planning our route and finally agreed upon flying into Frankfurt, driving to Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Siebeldingen, and back to Frankfurt.
czech republic - prague
We only spent one full day in Prague, but it was enough to enjoy it's beauty as one of the cities that survived WWII with minimal bombing. We spent most of our time at the Prague castle, which is the main site to seein Prague. This city is charming and worth spending a few days in.
austria - vienna and salzburg
We LOVED Austria. Vienna was by far our favorite place on the trip. With it being the center of the Holy Roman Empire for years, it was overflowing with history and sites to see. The Hofburg Palace itself provides days of tours and sites to see. There is also a lot of culture in Vienna with many different concert halls. We chose to see Lohengrin at the Staatsoper. Vienna is a beautiful city with both urban and old town parts and would be are most recommended city to see in Europe at this time. Salzburg was much smaller, but it also had it's charm, but there was much less to do, with Festung Hohensalzburg and Mozart's birthplace being the primary sites. You could always take the Sound of Music tour, which we didn't have time to check out.
germany - siebeldingen
We also spent a couple of days in the German wine region, where we toured a couple of Vineyards and spent some time checking out quaint villages along the Rhine river valley. It was a relaxing way to end the trip.
