the plantenbergs come to town

It is always a big deal when family comes to town since everyone lives out of state. I was ecstatic that my mom and dad were able to come all the way from Minnesota to celebrate Edmund’s baptism with us. I was equally excited that my sister Becky, being one of Edmund’s sponsors for his baptism, was coming to visit us for the very first time since we moved to Ohio. She brought both the twins Kellan and Kenzie with her, making it a very busy weekend.

Both the Plantenbergs and Grashorns came into town Saturday evening. Eric made his famous lasagna for dinner and we hung out in our little apartment until the babies were tired and wanted to go to bed. Also, and the boys were begging to go back to the hotel so that they could go swimming.

The next day we all arrived at church for the baptism. Surrounded by a few dozen of our good friends and family, we had our son baptized. He was sleepy and was his typical stoic self during the ceremony. We had to wake him up a few minutes before we were to go up since he fell asleep on Eric. He must have been anxious because he had woken up earlier than normal. Either that or he was surprised to find mom and dad sleeping in the spare bed in his room since aunt Laura stayed with us and stayed in our bed. (We woke up to him looking at us through the slats in his crib and talking to us. We tried not to move hoping he wouldn't notice, but he was too smart for that.) Either way, he did great during the ceremony. He was curious and couldn’t stop trying to grab everyone's papers, including Pastor Dan’s which brought a chuckle from most of the congregation. He did wonderfully and we were so proud.

We all went out to La Chatelaine after the ceremony, which is a local French bistro, to celebrate and enjoy a delicious brunch. Everyone chatted and Eric and I passed out pastries. We made sure to leave room in our tummies to go over to Jenni’s Splendid Ice Cream to enjoy some of her local delicious treats.

The next day we all went to the Columbus Zoo. It was beautiful out for February, so we had a blast walking around and looking at all of the animals. It was Edmund’s first visit and he was a bit overwhelmed by all of the things to look at, but had a great time. I am pretty sure the adults enjoyed the zoo more than the babies did. That night we went out to dinner at the Columbus Fish Market for dinner, which is always a good meal.
Auntie Becky gave Edmund his first teething biscuit, which he tried to swallow whole if he could while the twins chatted to each other from across the table.

The next morning, grandma, grandpa, Becky, and the twins stopped by to hang out for a little bit before heading off to the airport. We took some cute pictures of grandma and grandpa with the babies.

It was a wonderful weekend filled with family and friends. We had a great time hanging out with everyone. We missed Sean and the girls and also wish that Brian and Laura could have made it. It’s hard being far away from family and I wish that the trip hadn’t been so short, but it just means that we will have to visit Minnesota again sometime soon.
