We are so blessed! That’s all that we can say and repeat over and over every day to each other. After months of prayer, Eric has moved away from academia and into industry. This was a big decision for him and not taken lightly. It was a hard move, but the truth is that there are so few jobs in academia. Continuing to move forward down that path could have meant years of postdoctoral work, packing up and moving to different cities/states every 2-3 years, and at the end of it there would be no guaranteed job. For so long, this had been Eric’s path, but with different priorities now made with regards to family and friends, he decided that it was time to step back and try something different. As his wife, I would have fully supported him either way. I love him too much to tell him not to chase his dreams and follow his heart.
Only through prayer were we given guidance towards what we thought God wanted for Eric. He left academia at the end of September and is now working as a statistical analyst at Chase. He is still becoming acclimated to his new job, their different computer programs, and learning about the data sets he will be working with. It has been a steep learning curve, but he is learning a lot every day and is excited to tell me about what he is doing when he comes home. It is all so new. He will be working in the future as the interface between his analysis group and other areas within the company. Eric’s group is mainly made up of people who have PhDs, but apparently many of the people in his group lack the social capability to properly discuss their analysis and present it in a way that is easy for non-technical people to understand.
We are continuing to pray that he enjoys this new path. In the mean time, we are happy to stay here in Columbus where we have made great friends and have built our life and family together.
