We are broken records. Bear with us as this is our first child and
the fact that each month holds so many milestones is a surprise. It’s also extremely
exciting for us. Each week we exclaim, “he is getting so big”. Other people
that have known him since he was little also exclaim the same thing, so we are
not alone. Here again are the highlights from the past month.
This last month Edmund’s looks have continued to change. He is
looking more mature and due to his constant movement and lean physique, he has earned himself the
nickname “baby muscles”.

He also looks like he sweats a lot from all of his working out,
but nope, it’s just drool. He earned his 8th tooth this past month
on April 29, which is the cause of his excess saliva and the puddles mom finds
in the carpet wherever he has been laying. We are just glad they are only
drool. He also got a little more hair and it seems to be getting a bit darker. It
looks like it might end up the same color as mom’s. He is, if not one thing, consistent
– long and lean.

This month Edmund has been on the move. He has not been content to
crawl around. He wants to walk. He makes his way around the living room,
holding onto whatever objects he can, sometimes pulling them down on top of
himself. If there are multiple paths to get someplace, he likes to take the
most difficult one. He is a bit adventurous (too much at times) and doesn’t
mind trying to squeeze into spaces that are too tight for him to fit and gets
himself stuck. Luckily, his war cry is loud enough that mom and dad come in to
save the day. This past weekend, he started standing all by himself without
holding onto anything. He can only do it in small spurts, but it is the final
phase prior to walking. We are excited and scared all at the same time.
Prior to Edmund being born, we had dreams of cultivating a foodie.
How would we go about it? How would we get him to eat interesting things? We had
never anticipated the fact that our child might just eat everything in sight.
In case you were wondering, he does. This past week he ate tofu, udon noodles,
feta cheese, goat milk yogurt, mango, banana, falafel, and of course avocado
(his favorite). We also gave him his first taste of meat by letting him gnaw on
a chicken leg bone. Mom saw it recommended by Dr. Sears. Unfortunately, Dr.
Sears did not mention that our son would sob when we took the precious new toy
away. He also gets upset when mom pulls out the grass and clovers he stuffs
into his cheeks and hoards like a small hamster. He will thank us someday.
Luckily, when he gets upset, we are able to distract him with bath
time. He loves his baths and loves splashing around in the water. He is not
content to sit still in the bath anymore, and it has been a bit of a struggle
to keep him sitting down as he wants to stand up in the bath. His bath times
have become much shorter because of this.
We have also been letting Edmund self feed this month. Edmund is a
fairly clean eater. He doesn’t smear his food. He picks up the chunks and puts
them into his mouth, but if he happens to drop a piece on his lap, he leaves it
there until I find it molded to his pants when it is time to take him out. He
also likes to rub the left side of his head when he is full with his grubby
little hands, which means that he typically needs a bath almost every day. Or,
I will give him a good scrub down with the paper towels if it’s not too bad. Edmund
also learned how to drink from a sippy cup this month. We had tried a few
different kinds, but he ended up succeeding with the nuby brand. He loves
drinking out of it and he’s quite proud of himself when he does.
Although continuing to being startled by loud noises like
sneezing, doors slamming, etc, he seems to really love clapping. He likes it
when people clap at him and he loves to clap himself. We have also been working
on our signing and although Edmund seems to have understood the signs for a
while, he is FINALLY starting to sign back! He only signs a few words and not
consistently, but this has been months in the making.
Edmund has been such a trooper with the big move this past month.
He had fun crawling around the packed boxes while mom got everything ready. He
played by himself while we painted different rooms in the house and did other
projects that needed to get done before we moved in. He also has transitioned
to the new house without any problems at all. If anything, we think he likes it
better here than our apartment. There is more space for him to crawl around and
there are more door stops to boing.

There is also a really cool ceiling fan in mom and dad's room that he loves to look at.
We have had a lot of fun times this past month. We have taken him
to dad’s softball games, on walks around our new neighborhood, Skyped with
grandma and grandpa, planted a garden with him, and overall enjoyed the
blessing that he is. We are looking forward to the adventures of the next
month.
