emmalyn jane at 10 months

Emmalyn Jane is now 10 months old.
10 months
This has been the month of ALL the milestones. She has transitioned from what seemed like a baby to the cusp of being a toddler. We can't believe how big she is getting and that in just a couple of months she will be a year old.

This month Emma finally figured out crawling. She was 9 1/2 months and by far our latest bloomer in the moving category. We were completely fine with it, because that meant she didn't get into as many things. Now, she gets into all the things she can find. Luckily, we have a step down to our living room, so she can't get out of the living room currently without our help. After having so many kids, we are pretty well baby proofed. We just have to keep unplugging our lamps and place the cords on top of the end tables since she likes to chew on the cords. We just plug them back in when she is sleeping. We knew that it was coming because she kept doing tons of different baby yoga moves - downward facing dog, upward facing dog, planking, baby cobra. Once she figured out how to move her legs, off she went. She reminds us of a little bull dog when she crawls. She hasn't gotten fast yet and moves in a robotic type fashion as she tries to coordinate her arms and her legs. She keeps getting faster every day. She doesn't like crawling in grass, so that was helpful keeping her put during the last baseball games of the season.

Emma also learned how to get into a sitting position on her own. She gets up on her hands and knees and slowly sits back on her bottom. She is so proud of herself with her newfound skills.

Emma got two more teeth this past month. She got her two top lateral incisors. She is now up to 6 teeth. Sometimes she likes to grind her teeth together and it makes a horrible clicking sound. We hope she will stop that soon. Her hair is also getting longer and is still strawberry blonde and pale skin since mom slathers sunscreen on her whenever we got outside.

This has been our first full month of summer. It has been busy with Nathaniel having Safety City and all of the older siblings having Vacation Bible School. Emma enjoyed the few days with just mom to run errands and actually get a good morning nap. She also got to hang out for the last of the brothers' baseball games. We traveled to Indiana to celebrate Ethan's graduation party. We had a fun time swimming, eating good food, and spending time with the Grashorn family. We also had the Kurtz family visit and stay with us. They enjoyed meeting Emma for the first time, and we enjoyed catching up and playing with their son, James. We have been busy enjoying time at the pool, library, play dates, splash pad and the local parks. We took a special trip to the Olentangy Caverns. The kids got a kick out of exploring the caves. We went to the Lakes Anniversary party where the kids bounced around on the different inflatables. The boys went back with mom later in the evening and watched the fireworks. We celebrated the Fourth of July at the Sunbury Parade, where the older kids ended up with way too much candy. We also had friends over to enjoy grilled brisket and running around with sparklers.

As far as sleeping, Emma naps on the go in the stroller, in the car, or in the Ergo for her morning nap. We are always home for her afternoon nap, where she typically sleeps 2-3 hours. She is in bed around 8 pm and when she get up has been all over the place recently ranging anywhere between 7 and 10 am. If she sleeps until 10 am, she doesn't take a morning nap. Emma likes to sleep in her bed and does a great job of self soothing by sucking her thumb. She has been my only thumb sucker out of all of my children. I am hoping that she will eventually drop it on her own, but for now, it is really nice.

Emmalyn has continued to be her sweet self. She happily crawls around and sits and plays with her toy bin. She loves being around people. She is fairly shy and doesn't smile easily for people she doesn't know. She has started babbling more, saying lots of "dadadas" and she still like's to make the "ehs" sound. She has started to wave and even gave dad a high five the other day. We are still working on getting her to clap and use baby sign language.

Emma is still a good eater. We just moved her up to three meals a day. We are letting her self feed, rather than giving her purees for the most part. That means she eats less per meal, or it takes her longer to eat. She still eats pretty much everything we put in front of her. If she doesn't like something or is tired of eating it, she will drop it on the floor, or drop it next to her in her chair. We often find her sitting in a pile of crumbs when we get her out of her highchair.
