Clara is now 17 months old. We are getting nearer to the year and a half mark.
This has been the month of mirroring. Clara is picking up words at a rapid pace. She has new words on a daily basis and if you ask her to say something, she will try to repeat it. Her newest trick is that she loves to make animal sounds. She can make a lion, wolf, monkey, sheep, and snake sound.
Clara has more facial expressions. Besides mirroring words, she also loves to mirror what other people do with their faces. If you stick out your tongue, she will stick hers out. If you blow raspberries, she will too. If you raise your eyebrows, she will follow. She especially likes it if you laugh after she does it. She is greatly encouraged by laughter. She is her own best audience and laughs at herself.
Once of Clara's most annoying advances is her desire to climb. She has always loved climbing on the small rocking chairs we have or boxes in the toy room. She has newly discovered that if she pulls a pillow off of the couch, she can climb on top of the coffee table. She knows she is not supposed to do it, but she for some reason can't help herself. Her favorite is to dance and stomp her feet on top of it. Mom will tell her no and she will slowly climb down, but then she will be back at it less than a minute later. She also likes to climb up the step down to our living room and jump off of it like she is jumping into a pool. She sometimes even sticks the landing.
Clara is very sweet and enjoys waving at people and blowing them kisses wherever we go. She also loves to play peek-a-boo with them and loves attention. She also loves doting on her baby dolls. She can often be found carrying them around or pushing them in her baby stroller. She loves to kiss them and pat their backs. Stella is still her favorite.
Clara doesn't miss a beat and doesn't want to be excluded from anything. Her brothers have gotten really good with her as she has gotten bigger. They enjoy including her and tell her what a good baby she is, as long as she isn't getting into their things. That can lead to a lot of tears on both sides.
Clara is a good eater over all. She doesn't really like meat or eggs, but she happily will eat cheese, yogurt, any type of fruit, peas, beans, sweet potatoes, and pretty much any time of rice/bread product. She is still nursing, but mom hopes to wean her shortly.
Once of Clara's other favorite activities is reading. She loves to pull out all of the books and sit down and read them. She is happiest when mom will sit down with her and she will plop down in her lap and listen. The only books that she really sits through at this age are the lift a flap books or touch and feel books. Any other book, she only makes it through the first couple pages and gets and up and gets a new one.
The boys had spring break this past month, which meant lots of fun adventures. We took a trip to COSI and the zoo with friends, had a play date with friends at the library, ran errands to the grocery store and Costco, and mom even got to go to her bible study. This meant that Clara had to skip many of her morning naps, but she took it like a champ.
We have been preparing for the Easter season. We have been going through our Resurrection eggs almost every day and we dyed our Easter eggs. Clara didn't really get to help much this year, but she did get to watch the boys and mom showed her the eggs while they were being colored.
Brothers have started baseball, which means that we get to go and watch their games. It was really muddy the past times so Clara had to stay in the stroller, but she was happy to smile at people and mom brought her lots of snacks.
Looking forward to the beginning of summer and more time outside with this little belle.
