clara rose at 5 months

This has been a busy month for Clara Rose. She has had a lot of firsts and more milestones. It is amazing to me how much she changes from month to month.

Clara is in the adorable baby stage right now. She isn't in the sort awkward newborn phase but not big enough to be in the toddler phase. She still has her sweet gum filled smile and big brown eyes. She has large round rosy cheeks and rolls in her thighs. Her hair getting longer on top and in the back she has about 15 hairs that are way longer than the others. She has rubbed her hair shorter on the top portion of her back so it will warrant a hair cut in the future so that she doesn't have a severe baby mullet.

Clara has started rolling this past month. She rolled from her back to her front first at right about four months. She would first be really proud, but soon she would then cry because she didn't want to be on her tummy anymore. Mom or dad would go turn her over and then she would repeat the process about a minute later, rolling back onto her tummy again. Mom quickly showed Edmund how to gently roll her over and made it his job to help her. About two weeks ago, she finally learned how to roll from her tummy onto her back so now she can roll back and forth.

She is also perfecting her grabbing skills. She loves to grab things and bring them to her mouth to chew on - her Sophie, burp cloths, blankets, stuffed animals, and when all else fails, her little fists. She can even knock over her play gym on top of herself while she is underneath it. She has begun the phase of teething. Nothing has popped through yet, but we can see where the bottom gums are starting to shift to make room for them to pop through.

Clara had her first big trip this past month to celebrate Easter with the Grashorn family in Indiana. She enjoyed seeing everyone and meeting a few of her aunts and uncles for the first time. It was a bit of an adjustment and she didn't nap well at all while we were there, which was challenging. Luckily, she was still in pretty good spirits despite being behind on sleep. She enjoyed celebrating the Lord's resurrection with us with a book on Easter, and egg hunt with the big kids, and cuddling with family. She did pretty well on the ride there. She slept and then cried and mom had to feed her a bottle while driving down the road. One the way home she slept the entire trip she was so exhausted.

Clara had her first trip to the zoo with just mom and the brothers. We hope it will be one of many this summer. She did great, hanging out in the Ergo. She got to see the animals of North America and rode the train. She even got a little bit of a nap in. She did cry after we got stopped by a train and cried the rest of the way home.

Clara has had a couple of colds this past month. The first one was a virus that caused her fever to spike to 103.5. It, of course, happened over the weekend and the pediatrician recommended that mom take her to Urgent Care in case of a UTI. Everything came back normal, and she got over it in the course of a few days. She also got another cold a few weeks later. Hers was only a slight cough and a runny nose, which was nice considering Nathaniel got an ear infection and mom got strep throat all at the same time. We are slowly recovering.

This has been another exciting month with Clara. Looking forward to next month when she will be half a year old!
