High on my list of thing to start doing when we bought a house (after planting apple trees and before digging a pond) was brewing beer. It's simple, really. Buy a big pot and some big glass bottles, boil some liquid malt and dried hops for an hour, pour it in the big glass bottle, add yeast and wait. Then put it in little glass bottles and wait some more. Finally, open and enjoy. In the first two and a half of home ownership, however, step 2 (the part about buying the big glass bottles) somehow eluded me and our home was brewery free. Birthday 2014 changed everything (thanks Tom and Kathy and Anna and Northern Brewer!) Now the proud owner of carboys, bottling buckets, airlocks, racking wands and a hydrometer, I'm ready to brew. These blog posts are going to be very boring to most people, since they are going to be brewing notes for my own reference. If you find them interesting, you are either my mother or you are weird. If you want interesting information about brewing your own beer, try "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" by Charlie Papazian or "How to Brew Beer" by John Palmer (or you can buy his book from Amazon.) Now go find something better to do, like buying a six pack of Great Divide's Hibernation Ale, my current best beer ever.
